Beginning Orchestra– is available to any student who desires to play a musical instrument. No prior experience is required. Emphasis is placed on acquiring proficiency at the elementary level in music reading, tone production, and ensemble technique.
Advanced Orchestra– is based on audition during the spring of the previous year. Emphasis is placed on expanding the skills learned in Beginning Bands, raising the quality of the music performance, and preparing the student for participation in the String Orchestra or a high school ensemble.
String Orchestra – is based on audition during the spring of the previous year. Emphasis will be placed on the preparation for frequent performances and competitions through the acquisition of confidence in the most challenging literature at the middle school level. Must be in 7th or 8th grade.
Jazz Band – is available as an advisory class option to selected students concurrently enrolled in the Concert Band or String Orchestra only. This elite ensemble is chosen based on audition and the student’s record of behavior, self-discipline, and good citizenship. This group will study and perform literature of swing, rock, fusion, and Latin styles. Frequent performances at various venues are a hallmark of this group. Auditions are always held in September.
